The Cayman Islands - past, present and future
There is an expression in the Cayman Islands 'I heard it on the Marl Road' which is like hearing it on 'the grapevine'. What you hear on the real marl road may be rumour, folly, truth, helpful, exaggerated, a pearl of wisdom, a crazed rant, a fond remembrance - all that goes on in the Cayman Island forums here. | | This video shows official policy in action - Cuban Boat People trying to get to Honduras are routinely refused the basic humanitarian assistance of drinking water by the Cayman Islands Authorities. The policy is sanctioned of the UK Government's Foreign & Commonwealth Office. They may or may not be economic migrants rather than asylum seekers, nobody speaks Spanish well enough to check - either way their legal status doesn't make them less prone to thirst. Local people who want to help - and they do - fear being arrested for interfering with an immigration officer in the course of his duties. | |||
